Complete Winter Boat Maintenance Plan
Winterizing the Drive System, Hull and Interior of a Boat

By Ericka Watson, About.com

With winter looming on the horizon, it's time to put away the warm weather boating gear and turn our attention to a winter boat maintenance plan. By winterizing your boat properly, you will maintain your investment year after year. Before the cold settles in, follow these winter maintenance tips by clicking the links to learn how to perform each step in the winterizing process.

1. Winterizing your boat means more than the drive system. Be sure to winterize the hull and interior too.

2. The bulk of your investment of time and money in winterizing the drive system - the engine, fuel, gears and cooling sytem - will pay off in the long run. If you don't do anything else, winterize the drive system.

3. Choose the best boat storage method you can afford. Keeping the boat outside with a sturdy boat cover and adequate support may meet your needs just fine, but research all the options before you store your boat for the winter.

4. Use a boat winterization checklist to make the task of winterizing the drive system easier.
